Programs

Employment Essentials

Knowing the Rules of the Game

This comprehensive full day certificate workshop focuses on the essential knowledge to protect BC employees in any type of workplace. This program is designed for delivery in community organizations to empower their participants  to assist them in retaining their jobs through knowledge of their rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

This knowledge is extremely important especially as many historically marginalized peoples are now able to enter the workforce in a meaningful way.  It can be life changing to earn a living wage however if we are unable to navigate the environment it can end up being a negative experience.  Getting the job is just the first step.

Learn how to avoid the pitfalls that often can lead to lack of retention in your field of work.  We will touch on employment law and cover public and private sector work, Union agreements (CLA's), MOU's, Federal and Provincial Employment Standards, Human Rights, and resources including from an Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ perspective.  This is the stuff that doesn't seem to matter; until it does.  Since this is an information heavy course we will break it up with some fun activities. A certificate of competency is awarded at the end of the program.

Contact Trish Paulson at metiswoman99@gmail.com for custom pricing based on cohort size. Locations requiring long distance travel can also be negotiated.  Maximum 20 participants per session.  This is an in-person or virtual delivery model specifically for BC workers.
